DO WE ACCEPT REFERRALS?

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD I BRING IN MY CHILD FOR THEIR FIRST CHECKUP?

When your child develops baby teeth, it’s a good idea to bring them in to begin building a positive attitude toward dental health. We will likely just go for a “ride” in the chair, take a quick peek in their mouth and generally have some fun and make it a good first experience.

WHY SHOULD A CROWN BE PUT ON A ROOT CANALED TOOTH?

Root canaled teeth become more brittle because they are no longer “living” teeth once the nerve and pulp have been removed. Over time, we often see these teeth breaking or cracking. To avoid this, and to ensure that you keep the tooth for a very long time, we recommend a crown (cap) to protect it.

SHOULD I HAVE MY OLD SILVER AMALGAM FILLINGS REPLACED?

Yes and No! If your silver amalgam filling is broken, chipped, worn or has recurrent decay, then yes let’s replace it. But “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

IS TOOTH WHITENING SAFE?

When given proper instruction and procedure by a dental professional, certainly! However, whitening kits should be used with caution because tooth sensitivity is a common side effect. Talk to us about what whitening options are the best for you.

DO YOU CHECK FOR ORAL CANCER?

Absolutely. Even if we don’t actually say “And now we’re doing an oral cancer screening…,” we always are! At every cleaning & checkup we assess all the structures in and around your mouth for signs and symptoms of oral cancer.

HOW MANY TIMES A DAY SHOULD I BRUSH OR FLOSS?

Brushing twice a day (morning and night) and flossing once a day is perfectly adequate, as long as you’re doing it correctly! Use a soft toothbrush and ask the hygienist if you’re unsure about proper technique. We understand that most patients find flossing cumbersome, but it is very important nonetheless! You wouldn’t clean only part of your body in the shower, so try your best to clean the sides of your teeth by flossing! There are many flossing aids available (just ask us!) if you find it difficult to reach certain areas.

IF I LOSE A TOOTH, DO I HAVE TO REPLACE IT?

Most often it is advisable to replace any missing teeth (but not in every situation). When a tooth is lost, it can cause poor esthetics, low self esteem and less smiling. Spaces can also cause shifting of other teeth and problems with chewing. There are different options we can offer to replace teeth, including dental implants, bridges and dentures.

ARE DENTAL X-RAYS SAFE?

Yes, nevertheless we will not take more x-rays than are necessary to assess your particular situation. Our new digital technology, along with the use of lead aprons drastically limits the amount of radiation you are exposed to. A typical set of digital x-rays to check your mouth for cavities is equivalent to only one day of natural background radiation that we are exposed to just by living on Earth!
